When you come to Brașov, the first temptation is to look for a place to stay as close as possible to Piața Sfatului, the old town square. It’s convenient, but it comes with noise until late, hunting for parking in narrow side streets and the feeling that you never really left the city. Vila Trapez in Săcele is the option for those who want to be close to Brașov but also get some proper rest.

It’s a small three-star guesthouse with double rooms and studios, breakfast included and parking in the inner courtyard. What sets it apart is the view: every room has its own balcony or terrace, looking out towards the Bucegi, Postăvarul and Piatra Mare mountains. In the morning, before breakfast, it’s worth stepping out onto the balcony for five minutes.

Vila Trapez Săcele: a place to stay near Brașov

Vila Trapez in Săcele is a place to stay for those who want to explore Brașov and its surroundings. It’s on Strada Bunloc, right at the entrance to Brașov coming from Predeal. Administratively it belongs to Săcele, but in practice you’re on the edge of Brașov, a few steps from the DN1, the main road from Bucharest. There are no hairpin bends to climb to get there.

The old centre of Brașov is roughly 10–15 minutes away by car, Predeal about 20 minutes, and Poiana Brașov around half an hour.

The rooms

The guesthouse has nine double rooms and two studios, all with their own balcony or terrace and mountain views. The double rooms are designed for two people, but any of them can also be booked for single use. A third person can stay in a double room for an extra charge, and children up to 6 years old stay free.

The studios are a great option for families. They have a sofa bed that can be used by 2 people.

The amenities are what you’d expect from a three-star guesthouse: modern furniture, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, minibar, central heating, a hairdryer and toiletries in the bathroom. The safe is at reception, not in the room.

Breakfast and what else you’ll find at the guesthouse

Breakfast is included in the price and served daily from 7:00 to 10:00. Guests rate it highly, so we recommend you make the most of it. For lunch and dinner, reception can recommend restaurants in Brașov, and in the rooms you’ll find leaflets from places that deliver.

The villa has parking in the inner courtyard, covered by CCTV, and Wi-Fi is available both in the rooms and in the common areas.

Vila Trapez also hosts events. There’s a conference room with a video projector, screen, flipchart and sound system, well suited to meetings and presentations. The breakfast room has modular furniture and can be set up for training sessions or for weddings, christenings and company parties with up to 70 guests.

What to do in the area

Closest of all is Bunloc hill, right next to the guesthouse. The chairlift base station is a few hundred metres away, and Bunloc is a favourite spot for paragliders, so you’ll often see them above the hill. If you fancy a tandem flight, ask at reception. For the chairlift, check in advance whether it’s running when you visit.

For hiking, we recommend Piatra Mare, which you can admire from your balcony anyway. A few minutes’ drive towards Predeal is Dâmbu Morii, where the trail through the Șapte Scări Canyon (Seven Ladders Canyon) starts, with metal ladders fixed alongside the waterfalls. Another good option is the Tamina Waterfall, on the trail that climbs from Timișu de Sus.

You can comfortably see the centre of Brașov in a day: Piața Sfatului, the Black Church, Strada Sforii (Rope Street), the White and Black Towers, then a walk through Șchei to the First Romanian School. If you have children, Parc Aventura, near Lake Noua and the Zoo, is very close and will keep them busy for a good few hours.

In winter, for skiing, the easiest option is Poiana Brașov, and you’ll get to Predeal even faster. For a day trip, Bran Castle and Râșnov Fortress combine well. And if you’re heading back to Bucharest, it’s worth stopping at Peleș Castle in Sinaia.

Who it’s for

Vila Trapez suits couples who want peace and quiet and a beautiful view without staying far from Brașov. It’s also a great option for families and for those who come specifically for the trails on Piatra Mare. If you’re on a business trip, you can book a room for single use, and for meetings and business get-togethers the villa can provide its well-equipped conference room.

Worth knowing: pets are not allowed, smoking is only permitted in designated areas, and the building has no lift, something to bear in mind for guests with reduced mobility.
