Our suggestion for today is a short stay on the Mureș Valley. We are talking about a picturesque area in the central part of the country. Did you know that the Mureș Valley is located between the Southern Carpathians and the Eastern Carpathians and extends over more than 350 km?

Proud mountains, dense forests and crystal water – all of these form a little paradise that you should discover at the start of spring. Besides the authentic beauty of nature, in this region of the country there are also numerous tourist attractions of national renown.

We begin with the medieval fortresses, whose historic value is unequalled. Among them are Deva Fortress, Alba Iulia Fortress and Oradea Fortress. All of these are visited annually by very many tourists passionate about culture and civilisation.

Unique too are the fortified churches of the Mureș Valley, hundreds of years old. They have stood the test of time and have become a true symbol of the local communities in the area. In former times the places of worship were also used as refuges during attacks by enemy peoples.

Among the best-known religious buildings is also the Fortified Church of Biertan, a popular tourist destination in our country. Once spring has come, we want to spend more and more time outdoors, enjoying the sun and the first blades of grass that are already glimpsed.

Local gastronomy is, without a doubt, a well-founded reason to visit the Mureș Valley. You can taste traditional Romanian dishes, for example tripe soup, cheese pie or a generous portion of cabbage-leaf sarmale.

In the spring months, on the Mureș Valley there are also organised traditional festivals. What would you say to taking part in the “Zestrea Maramureșului” Folklore Festival and discovering more about the local character of this area?

Romanian culture and civilisation are thoroughly impressive if we look at folk costumes hundreds of years old. They not only represent true works of art, but are also made by hand, with great care.

Therefore the Mureș Valley seems a great destination for March. The rich history, unique landscapes and gastronomy should convince you to give yourself a few days to discover this area of the country.
