About Voineasa, Rânca

Voineasa resort, at the southern end of the Lotru Mountains (650 metres above sea level) and 70 km from Râmnicu Vâlcea, is a mountain resort for rest and treatment, open all year round.

Although it is not as well known or as crowded as the resorts of the Prahova Valley, Voineasa has its own special charm. It seems a place straight out of a fairy tale, full of greenery and imposing fir trees. It is the perfect destination if you have planned a few days away from daily worries, in a relaxing and refreshing place.

The resort is crossed by the Lotru river, which rises in the mountains of the same name. It was first documented in 1496, and it was the site of the second sawmill in the country.

The climate in Voineasa is quite pleasant, thanks to its position at the foot of the mountains. Contrary to expectations, in winter the resort is sheltered from draughts, wind and frost. The clean air of the resort is its main asset, which helps in the healing of certain medical conditions.

If you want to enjoy the scenery, there are several hiking trails starting from Voineasa to the Vidra reservoir, the glacial Lake Ciunget, Obârșia Lotrului or the forest of the Lătorița nature reserve. A walk on Lake Vidra lets you disconnect from the everyday bustle and enjoy the peace, a superb mountain landscape and the clean air, so highly valued. Built in 1972, the lake is used to produce electricity with the help of the associated hydroelectric plant. Water sports are also quite often practised on Lake Vidra (it is where the national kayak-canoe team trains), as is sport fishing.

In recent years there has been a growing demand from tourists for this destination, thanks to the ski slopes, Transalpina Ski Resort. They are 9 km long, and are also equipped with snow cannons and cable transport installations: a chairlift, a drag lift and a gondola.

Transalpina is one of the most fascinating roads in the country, linking the historical regions of Oltenia and Transylvania. The maximum altitude it reaches is 2,145 metres, in the Urdele Pass, making it the highest road in the country. The scenery along the road is superb and not to be missed.

An interesting activity for discovering the beauty of the resort is an ATV ride on trails divided into 3 categories: easy, medium and hard. Why not bring a little adrenaline to your stay?

Voineasa has many accommodation options, from campsites to 4-star hotels, with a spa centre for extra relaxation and comfort.
