About Suceava, Vatra Dornei

The Pearl of Bukovina lies in the Dorna Depression, at the confluence of the Dorna and Bistrița rivers, at an altitude of 802 metres, surrounded by enchanting scenery and views. It is the choice of many tourists, as it is known as a spa resort but also as the perfect place for winter sports.

The resort in Suceava County is where you can enjoy trips in nature, clean air, greenery and plenty of peace, spa treatments or winter sports.

The legend of the resort is well known and is linked to Dragoș Vodă, the “founder” of Moldavia, who had come to the area to hunt and had fallen hopelessly in love with a young woman, whom he killed by mistake. Out hunting, he followed a doe and took aim, but in its place stood Dorina, the girl he loved. The resort was named after the girl, and this is also where Dragoș Vodă buried her.

The Municipal Park in Vatra Dornei covers 50 hectares and is known for its many squirrels, which are very friendly. Declared a dendrological reserve, it lies in the centre of the resort and is the ideal place for a stroll.

The Casino in Vatra Dornei, also known as the Spa Casino or the Central Spa Pavilion, is on the list of historic monuments of Suceava County and has over 120 years of history. It was built between 1896 and 1898 in the eclectic style. Architecturally, it bears a significant resemblance to the Casino in Baden.

For those who come to the area to enjoy one of the best-loved winter sports, skiing, the resort offers one of the longest slopes in Romania, the Dealul Negru slope, 3,200 metres long. It has cable transport and is of medium difficulty. Other slopes tourists like are the Veverița slope, the Parc 1 slope and the Parc 2 slope, of different levels of difficulty.

Medical tourism is an important draw for tourists, largely thanks to natural curative factors such as carbonated mineral waters, natural mofettes and peat mud treatments. Conditions that can be treated include those of the cardiovascular and locomotor systems and other related diseases: asthenic neurosis, respiratory diseases, nutritional diseases and others.
