Galați – What You Can Visit in the City of the Blue Danube
Galați is a city whose popularity has always come from the fact that it has an opening onto the Danube. Beyond that, the city has numerous tourist attractions that are worth discovering at this time of year.
Did you know that in former times Galați was also known as “the city of the limes?” At present, tourists who reach these parts are passionate about architectural gems, places of worship, and natural attractions in the immediate vicinity of the city.
We begin with the Danube embankment, which is the main point of interest for tourists arriving in Galați. It is also a true “backbone” of tourism in this county, presenting a length of about 4 km. If you walk along the embankment you will notice numerous metal sculptures created as early as 1970, illustrating elements of culture and civilisation.
It is worth knowing that the embankment is formed of two parts, an upper and a lower one, ranking as the longest embankment on the course of the Danube. Most often the embankment is used by locals for sports such as jogging. It is also a place with enchanting scenery, often used for professional or personal photo sessions.
The Television Tower is another point of interest in Galați, offering tourists a unique experience. Architecturally it resembles two other towers in Berlin and Toronto very closely, presenting a height of over 150 metres. If you choose accommodation in Galați, then what would you say to a dinner at height? At the top of the tower a restaurant has been arranged, where you can try delicious dishes and admire the panoramic view of the whole city.
The Orthodox Cathedral in Galați is a tourist attraction remarkable both in its dimensions and thanks to its interior and exterior design. As for the exterior façade, a variety of Byzantine and Romanian motifs and geometric elements stand out, and the painting inside is created in Neo-Byzantine style.
Did you know that this religious monument was built in the period 1906–1917? Two well-known architects of that period took part in the project, Ștefan Burcuș and Petre Antonescu. Lake Brateș is another suggestion to keep in mind for your holiday in Galați. It is one of the largest lakes in our country, set right at the confluence of the Danube with the River Prut.
If you are keen on fishing, here you can catch zander, crucian carp, carp or bream. On the left side of the lake a small sandy beach has also been arranged, which means the lake is a real attraction during the summer months.
Therefore a holiday in Galați is certainly the kind of escape you dream of in 2023. Come to the bank of the Danube too and step out of the everyday for a few days. You will certainly get the much-desired relaxation.
