Although you are often tempted to turn your attention to a holiday abroad, it is worth knowing that our country has a lot to offer in tourism terms. There are numerous towns in Romania with a special charm, and we have prepared a top of them, to meet you with a few suggestions.
Sighișoara
Every travel enthusiast has heard at least once in their life of the citadel town built on two levels. Yes, you heard right! Did you know that the citadel buildings are at the bottom, and in the upper part, on a hill, the oldest school was built? Today the building houses the “Josef Haltrich” high school.
Although it is not a town spread over a large area, Sighișoara is renowned precisely for its colourful houses built long ago, but still lived in today. These buildings are also on the UNESCO World Heritage list, which is not at all surprising given their beauty and design.
Piatra Neamț
Geographically, the town on the Bistrița Valley is an oasis of greenery. The long autumns, mild winters and temperate continental climate are some of the advantages of local tourism.
There are numerous tourist attractions in Piatra Neamț, including the Museum Exhibition at the Princely House, the Cucuteni Neolithic Art Museum and the “Calistrat Hogaș” Memorial Museum. Symbolically called “the City of Calistrat Hogaș”, Piatra Neamț delights the eyes of tourists from all over the world, not just domestic ones.
Sibiu
It is worth knowing that this city was given the title of European Capital of Culture in 2007. That year no fewer than 2,000 cultural events were held here. Sounds truly impressive, doesn’t it? Your itinerary must not miss the ASTRA Park, the Council Tower, the Stairs Passage and the Council Tower.
The city’s fame has crossed national borders and even reached the ears of culture lovers around the world, thanks to the International Theatre Festival and the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Civilisation.
