About Bacău, Hemeiuș, Lilieci, Târgu Ocna, Dărmănești

Geographically, the town of Bacău is in Moldavia, and the western part of the county includes part of the Eastern Carpathians.

The whole county stands out for its outstanding natural setting, and if you are looking for a new holiday destination, you could consider it. Nothing is more pleasant than rediscovering the towns of Romania, visiting them on foot and enjoying the scenery, the sights and the many interesting activities.

With a history of more than 600 years, Bacău offers a host of remarkable sights.

We begin with Drumul Sării Salt Mine, in Târgu Ocna, where the underground galleries are truly spectacular, specially fitted out for a moment of relaxation.

We already know that salty air is beneficial for treating respiratory conditions and for strengthening immunity. Inside the salt mine we will find play areas for children, football pitches and a small café with a terrace.

However, the salt mine’s main point of attraction is the salt water waterfall, and the lake that formed from its overflow.

The Red Castle, Lilieci

In the north of Bacău County, in the locality of Lilieci, we find a monument known as the “Red Castle”, and its name comes precisely from the fact that the material it was built from is reddish.

The reddish brick has stood up very well over time, keeping its colour properties.

Set in the grounds of the Dendrological Park, this castle is a real architectural landmark, thanks to its Baroque-style balconies, arched windows and the decoration of its pilasters.

Staying with culture, in Bacău County there is also the Știrbei Palace in Dărmănești, which was built on the orders of Gheorghe Știrbei to serve as a family residence.

The palace has a very large green area that serves as a park, which continues into the forested area leading to Nemira mountain.

The building is remarkable for its distinctive architecture by Nicolae Ghika Budești, with broad staircases and massive stone walls.

The Nemira Nature Reserve is a protected area, because of its interest nationally. It is a wild area of nature, stretching over more than 3,400 hectares, where we find coniferous forests and species of flowers protected by law.

We already know that eco-tourism is developing fast, as tourists are thrilled by the clear waters of the Bârzăuța, where trout live, and by the forests where you can hear the roaring of stags in the autumn months.

Biodiversity is the key word that best describes the Nemira Reserve, a truly impressive place.
