About Sibiu, Șelimbăr, Avrig

This year the Povestea Calendarului (The Story of the Calendar) theme park opened in the Porumbacu de Sus tourist area. How did the story begin? The project was built by a family from Sibiu, inspired by the customs and traditions of the traditional village and by a return to origins. Anca and David Damian, 2 creative people from Sibiu, laid the foundations of this original concept, a fairy-tale land made up of 12 little houses, one for each of the 12 months of the year.

Povestea Calendarului is built next to the Valea Zânelor Clay Castle, and, as mentioned, it is made up of 12 themed little houses, all created with fascinating meticulousness and attention to detail, each representing one of the months of the year, but under their traditional Romanian names (Gerar, Făurar, Mărțișor, Prier, Florar, Cireșel, Luna lui Cuptor, Gustar, Răpciune, Brumărel, Brumar and Ningău.) The months of the year are also known among the people as “the 12 sons of the Year”, whose names were given by an activity or event that always took place in that month.

Each little house is built with symbols and details specific to the month it represents: February is a little house full of hearts (even the windows are heart-shaped), May has flowers, and so on. At each entrance you will find a poem written on a wooden board.

“With masks and carved pumpkins

Brumărel knocks at the door

Whether you give or you do not give

Treat us with kind words.”

Some of the little houses can also be visited inside, where you can buy souvenirs or sweets.

If you tire of admiring the splendid little houses after a short while, you should know that there is also a restaurant, swings, hammocks and a playground for children.

The park covers an area of about 10,000 square metres, and dozens of architects, designers, builders and visual artists took part in building it, together creating an enchanting place.

The entrance fee is 20 lei / adult, 10 lei / child, and the opening hours are: Monday – Thursday from 09:00 to 19:00, and Friday – Sunday from 09:00 to 22:00.
